2020 was a phenomenal harvest in New Zealand – but yields are way down across the board. That makes it all the more urgent for you to snag a share of lovely finds like this.
Duck Point Reserve Pinot Gris comes to our cellars from sunny Gisborne on the east of New Zealand’s North Island. With its warm temperatures and sea breezes, it’s a white wine paradise here, and Pinot Gris is one of the local specialties.
Insiders Tip: Pinot Gris? It’s the same grape as Pinot Grigio. While the latter is usually crisp and light, the “Gris” iterations tend to be more rounded and weighty on the palate. Duck Point is a delicious example of the style, offering up lovely aromas and flavors of ripe tropical fruit, yellow pear, honeysuckle, and stone fruit; the palate is gently off-dry, balanced by nervy minerality and acidity, with a long, grapefruit-tinged finish.
Pinot Gris is always a fantastic aperitif, but it also pairs well with seared scallops, grilled swordfish, or salads topped with goat cheese.
